My name is Jamie Ells, I’m with Parts for Trucks, and today I’m going to show you Jaltest. Jaltest is a diagnostic tool that we use here in our shops for the diagnosing commercial vehicles, diagnostics on light duty, right up to Class 8. This is the module that reads the systems, this comes along with all the cords necessary in the case. You can hook this up to any laptop that’s Windows based, it also has an option for a Windows based tablet.

This is the homepage of Jaltest, as you can see here at the top of the screen, we have commercial vehicle. There’s also available with Jaltest agriculture, off highway, material handling, which is forklifts and there’s a marine option as well. Currently, we’re going to go into the commercial vehicle, which will hook up to anything from a light duty vehicle right up to your class 8 trucks. On the options, we have an automatic scan when you go in, or you can also go through and hook up manually. Today, we’re going to show you how to automatically hook up. Most vehicles today will have this connection. Simply click on the icon once and it’ll start detecting the systems that the unit is hooked to. As you can see on the screen, it’s coming up detecting all the systems in the truck.

Many modules are in vehicles today. It’s going and detecting all the modules. You can see the circle at the top of the screen here still reading. And it’ll go through every module and as it goes, it’ll detect any faults that may be in each module. You can see here there’s some faults showing up indicated by a red x. You see at the bottom. It’s got a little graph here of what the codes mean. If it’s an active fault, non-active fault or systems identified or not identified. So you can see now she’s done her scans and we have 20 modules detected. You can scroll down through and depending on what your issues are, what you’re diagnosing. You can see all the faults in all the modules, all at one time. And in order to read into each module, you’ll have to highlight the one you’re looking at and you can either hit the connect button up top or you can simply double click the module. It’ll take you into this this section where this platform is the same for every module.

That’s one of the benefits of Jaltest, is having the same platform. No matter which vehicle you hook up to or what module you’re in, you’ll have the same dashboard and the same options. I’ll show you how we going to read the codes. Up top here we have the three active codes. It’ll give you the code names and numbers. If we hover over top of this, this ‘i’ and click on it. It’s going to show you some information about the code when it was last occurred, what hours and if the lights on or off or if it’s currently active. There’s a help section here to give you an idea, some possible faults or what it will affect. And then it’ll take you right into the troubleshooting part. So now we’re into the fault code troubleshooting section and you’ll see the first step that comes up.

It’s going to take us through the step, step-by-step. So you basically you read the, read the troubleshooting tree and follow along, and if you don’t fix it, you hit the next button. You’ll do this one step at a time until you find your problem. When you see these blue hyperlinks, this is things that help you find the information that you may be looking for. This has taken us to the oil level. We want to see what the engine thinks the oil levels are, and it’s simply a matter of clicking the hyperlink and going to have a look at the measurements that are required. If you don’t correct it in the step, you hit the next button if you’ve fixed it or not. So we’re going to hit ‘No”, we didn’t fix it, and we’re going to continue. We go to the next step and you can see along here, we’re getting down through where it’s going to be wiring.

We’re having some wiring issues that it wants us to check and it will give us a picture of the sensor that we’re looking for. It’ll even show you on the engine where the sensor is located. It’ll give you a few ideas where to go and when it’s a blue hyperlink. It’s going to take us straight to the wiring diagrams of the sensor. And so we can check the wires. And as you can see, when it comes on the screen, it’s got a highlighted gray section over the sensor. If I hover over top, it’ll show us the picture of the sensor, and if I double click, it’ll bring us into some more information, like on the main screen. It’ll give us the pin numbers of the sensor where it’s located on the engine. It will give us some pressure values of the RPMs as well. It will give us some torque specs and it’ll even tell you a component replacement guide of how to replace the sensor. We’ll jump back out and head back to our troubleshooting once again if you have corrected your issue or not.

This is for you to be able to go back and forth to find out if it’s a fixed or not. You can hit, “no” and hit the next part. Next option and this goes to the very end until you’ve corrected your issue. By the time you get to the end, everything should be corrected.
